Anders Astrand (b. 1962) composes for percussion instruments, particularly
the vibraphone, which he plays on this recording. Other instruments
are marimba, vibraphone and crotales. Music includes Wedding
March, Walking Mallets, Three Seconds to D, Rauk, and Aurora
Borealis. It's a fascinating look and listen into the world
of gentle percussion imaginatively reproduced in multi-channel sound. Delightful
in every way!

CHESKY SACD 230 TT: 50:40
(5/4 channel - Chesky prefers not to use the center and low-frequency channels;
the readout is 5 channel, but there are only 4, left & right, front & rear)
Recorded in January 2001, this is a superbly recorded CD of fine performances
of these famous choruses. Although only 4 channel, the sound surely
is special in spatial perspectives. The extended excerpt from Parsifal is
particularly impressive with its bells and offstage children's voices. The
only debit is limited playing time. |
