A rousing collection of film
and television music by a master of the genre who conducts the London
Symphony in this 70-minute superbly-recorded
program. Featured are Star Trek: The Motion Picture,
The Boys from Brazil and Twilight Zone: The Movie. The only
debit is that the medleys aren't individually banded; it would be
convenient to be able to access a desired section. The LSO is at
its best under the composer's baton. For whatever reason, this
is 5 channel instead of Telarc's usual 5.1
GOLDSMITH: Music for

Three of Jerry Goldsmith's
major "serious" works, the
major one Christus
Apollo based on a text by Ray Bradbury, with mezzo-soprano, chorus, narrator
(Anthony Hopkins) and full orchestra. Two shorter works fill out the disk: Music
for Orchestra, dating from 1970, was written for the St. Louis, and Fireworks,
composed in 1999. Typically fine Telarc multi-channel sound in this recording
made in September 2000, although it is 5 instead of 5.1 channel. REVIEW
