Yuja Wang is a phenomenal pianist with astounding technique and power packed into that diminutive frame. She has made numerous recordings including a fabulous Rachmaninoff Three coupled Prokofiev No. 2 with Gustaval Dudamel on the podium (REVIEW). This video features a document described as "a road movie" by Anaïs & Olivier Spiro about the artist on tour and features rehearsals of Prokofiev's Concerto No. 2 with Lionel Bringuier on the podium. We also have a concert at the Salzburg Festival in which she plays Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and Ravel's Concerto in G. Magnificent performances all, recorded in realistic audio and video, although it is unfortunate more music isn't included. Still, the legion of admirers of this remarkable pianist surely will w ish to investigate this issue.
Here we have Leonard Bernstein conducting French music with the French National Orchestra. The Berlioz is from a concert in the glittering Champs-Elysées Theatre in Paris on an unspecified date in 1976, the other works in the same venue in 1981.All of these performances have been issued on CD, and now admirers of Bernstein can watch his dynamic podium presence. Excellent idiomatic performances throughout as one would expect. These are well-balanced stereo recordings, surprisingly not originally recorded multi-channel. Video is excellent usualy focusing on Bernstein.
This performance of Bellini's Norma opened the Met's 2017-2018 season and was one of the Metropolitan Opera's greatest success. This performance was given October 7, 2018 and what we have here is the Met Great Performances HD theater telecast. The cast is extraordinary with the Met's finest singers. The production is by David id McViccar with sets by Robert Jones, costumes designed by Moritz Junge, and lighting by Paule Constable. First-class all the way, beautifully filmed and presented in satisfy8ng multi-channel audio that takes you right inside the venue. A remarkable issue!
