This site has praised previous recordings by the remarkable German violinist Arabella Steinbacher (b. 1981) including music of Korngold, Bruch and Chausson (REVIEW), Bartok concertos (REVIEW), Dvorak and Szymanowski concertos (REVIEW)and Brahms Violin Sonatas (REVIEW). Now we have another splendid from Steinbacher, a logical coupling of two of the most famous works for her instrument. Just about all violinists have recorded these, but there is no question this new performances are among the best. And we have the advantage of Pentatone's ultra-clear audio, a very natural sonic perspoectiv. A welcome disk in a crowded field.
Last November this site mentioned a fine SACD of music of Beethoven for Violin and Piano played by Thomas Albertus Imberg and Micael Korstick (REVIEW). Now we have another disk in this Granola series offering Sonatas 4 and 5 as well as the composer's variations on a theme from Mozart's Marriage of Figaro The violinist already has made many fine recordings and this one sustains their quality.
Swedish soprano Miah Persson (b. 1969) , made her debut in 1999 as Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro and since then has sung more Mozart a well as Puccini and lighter Verdi, She madeng her Met debut in 2009 as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier. She is assisted by mzzo-soprano Katerina Karneus in in the "Flower Duet" from The Pearl Fishers. from Her recordings include works of Mozart and Bach, and she can be heard in Ivan Fischer's recording of Mahler's Symphony No. 4. She has a light, flexible voice free from vibrato, evidenced in this wide-ranging program of arias, with strong support from Daniel Harding and he fine Swedish orchestra. Impressive singing throughout, and her voice has been captured most realistically by the BIS engineers. Complete texts are provided.
