JOSHUA BELL - THE CLASSICAL COLLECTION
The remarkable versatile violinist Joshua Bell (b. 1967) has recorded profusely for various labels since his career opened on a grand scale when he was only 14 performing with the Philadelphia Orchestra and conductor Riccardo Muti. Since 2011, he has been music director of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. He has recorded profusely particularly fir Decca and Sony. This fine compilation offers all of his Sony recordings. We have concertos by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Bach, Corigliano, Schumann, Brahms (Double concerto), Goldmark, Maw, and Sibelius. We also have major sonatas by Franck, Ravel, and Saint-Saëns, as well as music of Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin. Bell made many recordings of shorter pieces, encore pieces and these also are here. Each disk has its original cardboard jacket. A 64-page booklet is included with a number of photos. This is a fine collection, and budget-priced.
